Illuminating Charge Transport in Feldspar to Measure Rates of Earth Surface Processes (LUMIN)

LUMIN is a 5-year ERC Advanced Grant research project (2023-2028) led by Professor Mayank Jain at the Department of Physics, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where he heads the Luminescence Physics and Technologies section.

The project aims to advance understanding of charge transport in feldspar minerals and to use this knowledge to develop new methods for quantifying rates of Earth surface processes, including weathering, erosion, and sediment transport. By combining experimental innovation, instrumentation development, and modelling, LUMIN seeks to provide improved tools for reconstructing Earth surface dynamics with high resolution.

LUMIN has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (grant agreement No. 101097215).
